Katya Bessarabov is a composer, pianist, and vocalist whose work combines the emotional depth of orchestral storytelling with folk and electronic influences, creating immersive and deeply resonant musical experiences and soundscapes across genres. .

Classically trained from the age of six, she holds a Bachelor's degree in Music with a specialisation in piano performance and music theory. She further advanced her compositional craft by obtaining a MFA for scoring motion pictures and contemporary media at the Film Scoring Academy of Europe, where she was able to record and conduct 15 recordings sessions, with up to 110 musicians. During her studies, she was mentored by renowned industry professionals, including Dr. Andy Hill (Walt Disney Pictures), Alastair King (Harry Potter, Downton Abbey, Doctor Who, Wonder Woman), Jack Wall (Call of Duty: Black Ops, Mass Effect), amongst others, further refining her cinematic storytelling through sound.

Rooted in classical tradition yet driven by a passion for innovation, Katya brings a distinctive voice to her compositions—one that evokes deep emotional resonance, whilst delicately retaining and balancing emotional nuance with bold creative exploration. Her work often bridges contrasting musical worlds, seamlessly weaving orchestral, folk, and electronic elements into soundscapes that are evocative, expressive, and unexpected. Having grown up between South Africa and Canada in a Slavic household, whilst also spending several years in Bulgaria, Katya draws inspiration from the roots of these cultures into her work.

In 2026, Katya was commissioned to compose an original anthem as part of the opening and marketing campaign for MDS at Strayer, a new film scoring program run by Dr. Andy Hill. She recorded and conducted her original music at the Forum Studios in Rome, Italy. She has also orchestrated for Lorne Balfe, and has had her featured vocal performance at the Composer’s Summit Prague, accompanied by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra. Her vocals also feature on Paramount’s second season of The Crow Girl. She continues to pursue her musical purpose, striving to create emotional musical experiences that leave a mark.

A self-described "pianist gone rogue," Katya has also embraced DJing, drawing inspiration from a wide spectrum of musical influences. Beyond the studio, she’s an avid lover of photography, painting, dance, travel and outdoor adventures, all of which inform her creative process.

She is an expert in Logic Pro, Cubase, Dorico, Sibelius, Protools, amongst other software, and has full-on experience in the process of production, from the birth of concept, to composition, midi programming and midi cleaning, orchestration, score/parts preparation and copying, session librarian, recording session preparation and management, score supervision, music editing, and conducting.
